Hello - we have new music...

We have been busy, creative and inspired to write new music over the last 2 years - despite the pandemic, despite the all of the craziness that is going on in the world right now, we are ready to release our own brand of optimism and realism, musically infused by a personal set of lyrical reflections and future gazing.

'Tell me what you want', our new album, was released on May 19th this year and we genuinely think this is our most impressive project to date. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording it!

Tell me what you want, a synopsis...

To be released on May 19th this year, ‘Tell me what you want’ will be The Dunwells fourth, full length, studio album recorded and self-produced from their own studio in Leeds, UK. All tracks have been co-written by the majestic song-writing combo of brothers Joseph and David Dunwell, mixed by Tim Palmer and Chuy Flores and mastered by Gavin McGrath.

‘Tell me what you want’ is a collection of 12 stunning new tracks, written over the last 2 years and has been described as The Dunwells “most creative, inspired and personal work to date, reflecting a wide range of musical and lyrical influences”

Airy acoustic indie-folk-pop which focuses on strong lead vocals, harmonies and big choruses all flow through the fine production of this album. The brothers have taken their ‘indie-folk’ roots to a new level, experimenting and underpinning many of the tracks with soaring, intricate and studiously interwoven electric guitar infusions.

‘Tell me what you want’ pays homage to some of The Dunwells favourite artists and contemporaries such as Passenger, Josh Ritter, The Lumineers and Vance Joy. If you listen closely enough, you can hear the influences their father gave to them as youngsters with undertones of Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher, Fleetwood Mac, Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, and The Beatles, running through the album.

The Dunwells have in effect created a ‘soundtrack of their lives’. ‘Tell me what you want’ evokes genuine emotions of joy, love, hope, happiness, hurt, pain, and even loss.  Even the most battle-hardened and stoic of listener will struggle not to be moved by some of the more emotional and heartfelt tracks in this album. It would be fair to say that this is The Dunwells most honest and personal album to date, lyrically laying it out bare, for all to hear.

The running order of the album has been carefully curated – balancing some of The Dunwells more upbeat and optimistic tracks such as Summertime, Heart Electric and the eponymous title track ‘Tell me what you want’ with the heart-wrenching ‘See You Soon’, ‘Battle Scars’ and ‘Best Day’.

It is no exaggeration to say that every song on this album is a standout track and has already seen 3 singles released ahead of the official May 19th album launch date – ‘Summertime’, ‘Daydreamer’ and their most recent track, ‘This is love’. The incredibly poignant and singalong anthem ‘How will they remember us’ is expected to be the next gift given to the world from this album.
